At the end of June, the Ecuadorian city of Cayambe traditionally hosted one of the most striking events in the country's flower sector - Desfile de las Rosas, or Rose Parade. The event that is held annually at the initiative of the local community of cut flower producers, has become a true demonstration of the potential of the region, which plays a key role in the flower export from Ecuador.
Cayambe is one of the largest centers of flower production in the country, known for the high quality of roses, gypsophila, alstroemeria, carnations and other types of flowers. The region's high altitude climate allows it to provide a steady supply of fresh cut flowers to various parts of the world throughout the year. The participation of farmers in the Rose Parade highlights not only the cultural significance of the industry, but also its significant contribution to the region's economy.
Flower floats decorated with fresh locally produced flowers paraded through the main streets of the city, accompanied by dance groups, folk orchestras and delegations from the producing farms. The parade attracted a wide audience: farms, logistics companies, representatives of exporters and transport companies.
The Rose Parade is not just a cultural event. It is an important platform for the popularization of the flower sector and the international promotion of Ecuadorian flower growers, especially in the context of increasing global competition.
Ecuador continues to confidently hold its position as one of the largest suppliers of fresh cut flowers on the world flower market, and Cayambe rightfully occupies a leading position among producing regions. The Rose Parade was a clear demonstration of the professionalism of local growers and also demonstrated the strong connection between the flower industry and the cultural and economic life of the country.
